Women's Tennis Posts 7-0 Victory

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee swept the doubles matches and all six singles outings, defeating Chattanooga, 7-0, in women's tennis action Tuesday at the Manker Patten Tennis Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Middle Tennessee (3-4) ended a four-match losing streak with the victory, with all four losses against ranked opponents.

In doubles, Pooja Kommireddi and Stephanie Parkison picked up a victory at No. 3 after one game when Samantha Duggan and Celeste Nicholson retired. Marlene Chemin and Ann-Kristin Siljestrom secured the doubles point with an 8-1 victory at No. 2 over Bonnie Adams and Beata Knizat.

Middle Tennessee's Hala Sufi and Claudia Szabo won 8-5 at No. 1 over Anastasia Zhukova and Lindsey Ballard.

In singles the Blue Raiders won all six matches, including five in straight sets.

Szabo defeated Duggan, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5, before Kommireddi picked up a victory over Kate Ksiezopolski at No. 6, 6-2, 3-0, retired. Chemin then won 6-2, 6-2, against Knizat at No. 3, and Parkison posted a 6-4, 6-0, triumph over Adams at No. 4.

Siljestrom defeated Ballard, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2, before 47th-ranked Sufi won 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, over 23rd-ranked Zhukova at No. 1 for the final 7-0 score.

Middle Tennessee heads to Lubbock, Texas, this weekend, facing Texas Tech Friday and Air Force Saturday.
