MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's Andreas Siljestrom and Marco Born jumped to second in the nation in doubles while three players are ranked in singles and the Blue Raiders are rated 43rd as a team in the latest FILA ITA National Rankings.
Siljestrom and Born were ranked 16th in the first rankings of the spring but jumped 14 spots to No. 2 after posting a 7-0 dual match record so far this season, including a victory over then 21st-ranked Brady Crosby and Tim Bradshaw of Western Michigan. The duo was ranked as high as No. 2 in 2006 as well.
The No. 1 doubles team in the nation hail from Georgia, with John Isner and Luis Flores forming the tandem. Born-Siljestrom lost to Isner-Flores in the finals of the ITA National Intercollegiate Championships in November, 9-8 (4).
Siljestrom moved up five spots in singles to 36th in the nation. The senior is also 7-0 in dual matches in singles this spring, including five wins over ranked opponents. His efforts in last week's victory over then 54th-ranked Mississippi State, including a 6-3, 6-2, triumph against then 31st-rated Phillippe Frayssinoux, garnered Siljestrom Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week accolades for the second time this season.
Born and freshman Marc Rocafort are both tied for 100th in the country in singles.
Born is just 5-4 in dual matches, but three of the losses came after he injured an ankle in the January 28 outing versus East Tennessee. He has victories over Virginia Tech's 87th-ranked Nicolas Delgado and also defeated Mississippi State's 32nd-ranked Ivan Bjelica last weekend.
Rocafort has posted a 5-3 mark in dual matches in singles and is 17-8 this academic year in singles.
The three singles rankings at the same time for Middle Tennessee is a first since February 20, 2002, a span of 50 rankings periods. The three ranked at that time - Daniel Klemetz, Robert Gustafsson and Oliver Foreman.
The Blue Raiders take on 48th-ranked Vanderbilt Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center. The Commodores are led by 70th-ranked Ryan Preston and enter the match 4-3 overall this season.
