Women's Tennis Falls to Penn State, 6-1

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team dropped the doubles point and five singles outings in a 6-1 loss to Penn State Saturday in Huntington, W.V.

The Blue Raiders (4-6) dropped the first of two matches this weekend in Huntington. Middle Tennessee takes on 58th-ranked Marshall Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.

Penn State picked up the first point of the match, winning doubles outings at Nos. 2 and 3.

PSU's Sarah Lotto and Jenny Shular defeated Marlene Chemin and Ann-Kristin Siljestrom, 8-1, at No. 2, before Dorothy Dohanics and Lauren McCarthy won 8-2 over Pooja Kommireddi and Stephanie Parkison at No. 3. Middle Tennessee's Hala Sufi and Claudia Szabo took care of Sasha Abraham and Lauren Holzberg, 8-5, at No. 1.

In singles the Nittany Lions posted victories at the bottom five spots in the lineup.

Sufi, ranked 53rd nationally in singles, defeated Andrea Niculescu, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 for Middle Tennessee's only point of the match.

PSU's Dohanics defeated Parkison, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 before Abraham won 6-1, 6-4, over Siljestrom at No. 2. Shular took care of Szabo, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4 and Holzberg won by the same score over Chemin at No. 3. McCarthy defeated Kommireddi, 7-6 (4), 6-2, at No. 6.

"We played well in some spots today and played better overall as a team, but we ran up against a really good Penn State team," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "Pooja played better even though she lost and Hala continues to play well and lead our team."
