Men Finish Eighth, Women 10th at SBC Championships

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Freshman David Hughes placed 11th, as the Blue Raiders finished eighth and the Lady Raiders took 10th at the Sun Belt Cross Country Championships at Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green, Ky., Saturday.

Hughes ran the 8K course in 27:21.59, leading the Blue Raiders, who ran without two-time individual champion and senior Geoffrey Lagat because of an injury.

Zack Wood finished in 29:55.77 to place 36th, while Tony Carufe was 42nd in 30:26.93. Senior Anthony McGary came in 53rd in 32:39.04, Carlos Gonzales was 59th in 34:04.93, and Tim Hicks placed 62nd in 35:51.36.

For the Lady Raiders, freshman Kim Alsobrook was again the leading finisher, coming in 42nd in 27:15.26 on the 6K course.

Sophomore Fran Haas placed 56th in 30:30.45, while freshman Lauren Milbourn was 57th in 31:03.08 and freshman Contrena Brown finished in 34:23.74 to take 61st. Sophomore Kishara George placed 62nd in 34:30.22, and freshman Kerry Barrow did not finish.

The Blue Raider and Lady Raider track and field teams begin their indoor season December 7 with the Middle Tennessee Christmas Invitational at Murphy Center.
