Today's Football Press Conference QuotesNovember 10, 2003 · MT Media Relations
Right now we're just concerned with correcting our mistakes and trying to get better. We have always had tough games with them and they are coming off a big win against Florida International. They are playing well right now, having won three out of their last four. We know we will have a big challenge this week. Coach Bustle has gone through some of the same things we've gone through at Middle Tennessee. They are a good team, but the record doesn't show it because of their tough early schedule.
McCollum on QB Andrico Hines
He is day-to-day right now. The x-rays came back negative, but he still has some swelling in his hand. We'll just have to see how things go with him this week. He had another gutsy performance against a tough defense last week. He had a great run for a touchdown and then had a great throw to Kerry [Wright] for another touchdown into the wind. We're not playing really well up front and we haven't been able to run the football the last few weeks. We need to run the ball better to pass the ball the way we want to and be balanced.
McCollum on senior day
The last home game for the seniors is always special. This class has battled more BCS teams than any class in school history and gone toe-to-toe with those teams. The win-loss record may not show it, but this class has done some great things at Middle Tennessee. Winning is fun and they want to go out winners at home on Saturday.
McCollum on the running game
It has been a combination of things. We lost Kevin Davis, who is a big, physical back, and Kelvin German, who was really coming along for us. We faced North Texas, which has a great run defense, and then went to Utah State and played in the snow and ice, which didn't help our cause. We also lost Willie Hall from our offensive line and have switched some people around. We have to get better up front if we want to get back to running the ball the way we're capable.
McCollum on Kerry Wright
His 1,000 yards is a great accomplishment. No one is more deserving than Kerry. He got to watch Kendall Newson as a young player and see his work ethic. I don't know if anyone has ever had a better work ethic than Kendall Newson. Then he got to watch a guy like Tyrone Calico, who is different that Newson because of his size and raw ability. But, Kerry made some plays for us then, too. I remember he had a big touchdown catch against Connecticut that was a big play for us in that game. Kerry was just kind of the unsung guy when those players were here. It is a big accomplishment, but it is also a team award. The guys that blocked for him and worked with him in practice can share in this award. Kerry is a humble guy and will go right back out there today like nothing ever happened.
WR Kerry Wright on Senior Day
There are a lot of seniors on this team that worked very hard for four years to get to this game and its up to us to send them out with a win.
Wright on the UL defense
They have great people up front and they have a lot of speed. They will play a little bump and run. They like to play a physical style and try to get you out of what you normally like to do.
Wright on QB Andrico Hines
He has a big heart and he wants to win every game. He is a leader and a gutsy player. Even when things don't go well for us, he is always willing to stand up and take the blame and most of it isn't his fault. It says a lot that a guy is willing to do that.
LB Randy Arnold on Senior Day
This is a special game, not just for me, but for all our seniors. We have been through a lot together at Middle Tennessee and to go through that tunnel one last time will be special.
Arnold on Louisiana-Lafayette
They are a lot like us. They have been through a tough schedule, have good athletes, and have suffered some injuries. I think they are down to their last quarterback, but they really have turned it around the past few weeks. We will have to execute extremely well and make plays in order to win.
