Raiders Fall to No. 17 Aggies, 7-0

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Texas A&M swept all three doubles and all six singles matches, as the 17th-ranked Aggies defeated Middle Tennessee, 7-0, in women's tennis action Monday at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.

The Blue Raiders (4-8) lost their seventh match this season against a ranked foe, while the Aggies (12-2) rebounded from a loss at second-ranked Notre Dame last week.

In doubles, Texas A&M won all three matches with relative ease.

Sarah Foster and Tiffany Clifford defeated Hala Sufi and Claudia Szabo, 8-5, at No. 1, before the 22nd-ranked duo of Nicki Mechem and Anna Lubinsky took care of Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and Stephanie Parkison, 8-3, at No. 2. TAMU's Anna Blagodarova and Michelle Sammons won 8-5 at No. 3 over Pooja Kommireddi and Marlene Chemin.

In singles the Aggies won all six matches in straight sets.

Mechem defeated Parkison, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5, and Elze Potgeiter won 6-0, 6-2, over Szabo at No. 4. Blagodarova took care of Chemin, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3, and Sammons defeated Kommireddi, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 6.

Texas A&M completed the sweep, as Foster won 6-2, 7-5, against Siljestrom at No. 2 before 17th-ranked Lubinsky defeated 61st-ranked Sufi, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 1.

Monday's match was the first in a six-match homestand for Middle Tennessee, who takes on Indiana State on March 24 at 11 a.m. at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
