Lady Raiders Gear Up with Exhibition Game Tuesday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee women's basketball will play its only exhibition game of the year when the Lady Raiders host Georgia College and State University Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Murphy Center.

Last season the Lady Raiders defeated Georgia College and State University in an exhibition game 85-48. Guard Patrice Holmes will again lead Middle Tennessee this season and will see most of her action at the point guard position. Other returning starters for the Lady Raiders include senior guards Keisha McClinic and Jennifer Justice and forward Tia Stovall.

Goals for the exhibition game include creating more discipline on offense and defense. The team will also work on the zone defense the coaching staff included in the Lady Raider package four days ago.

"I have been really impressed with how we have been running the zone, especially since we only put it in a few days ago," said head coach Stephany Smith. "What has concerned me is how we have been running our everyday defense."

Freshman Krystle Horton is expected to receive the nod for the final spot in the starting five. The forward from Riverdale High School is expected to make an instant impact on the court for the Lady Raiders.

"Krystle has come in and done exactly what I expected her to do," Smith said. "She will make an impact immediately."

Overall the Lady Raiders will use their lone exhibition game to test their legs and do some tune-up. It will be treated like a game that counts and Smith expects to see the same passion and intensity in Tuesday's exhibition, which she knows she will see against Tennessee Tech on Friday November 21.

"I know this team will be focused for the game tomorrow," Smith said. "I wouldn't expect anything less from them, they are a special group who are ready to start the season."

The Lady Raiders' game with Georgia College and State University can be heard exclusively on the Internet Tuesday at www.goblueraiders.com. Neil Price will give play-by-play and Ryan Simmons will be doing the color commentary.
