Reid, Relays Lead Tracksters at Yellowjacket Invite

Senior places third, women's relay second

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Senior Orlando Reid placed third in the 100-meters and the women's 4x400-meter relay finished second, leading Middle Tennessee's track teams Saturday at the Yellowjacket Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.

Reid was the second collegian in the event, posting an NCAA regional qualifying time of 10.45 to place third in the 100, while sophomore Samuel Adade placed eighth in 10.65.

The women's 4x400 relay of sophomore TraMayne Gillyard, sophomore Erika Palmer, senior Shanna-Kay Campbell and freshman Sarah Nambawa finished second in another NCAA regional qualifying time of 3:41.95.

Elsewhere for the women, Campbell, senior Veronia Patterson and Nambawa placed 6-7-8 in the 400-meters with times of 54.71, 55.00 and 55.61, respectively. Junior Marjorie Gombert finished fifth in the 800-meters in 2:15.54, while freshman Sangau Zamzam was fifth in the 5000-meters in 17:50.43.

The women's 4x100-meter relay of senior Tiffany Owens, freshman Tenesha Hill, junior Antranette Stringer and Palmer finished fifth in 46.32.

In the field events, junior Stephanie Tamgho placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 19-0, while freshmen Brittany Cox and MeLyn Thompson were sixth and eighth in the shot put with marks of 44-7 and 43-9.75, respectively.

For the Blue Raider men, senior JaKeith Hairston placed eighth with a mark of 21-4, while senior James Thomas was sixth in the discus with a mark of 162-1.

The men's 4x100-meter relay of senior Juan Walker, Reid, senior Sean Waller and Adade finished fourth in an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 39.97.

A small group of tracksters will travel to Austin, Texas, for the Texas Relays next weekend and the remainder of the men's and women's squads will take part in the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala., next Saturday.
