December 18, 2003 · MT Media Relations
MURFREESBORO, TN - One of the top rushers in the history of Coffeyville Community College has signed on to play for Middle Tennessee in 2004. Lee Baker, who rushed for 1,480 yards and 11 touchdowns this past season, was an all-star back and kick returner for the ninth-ranked Ravens.

"We are extremely pleased with Lee Baker joining our program because he is a quality person and football player who will represent our university extremely well," head coach Andy McCollum said. "We had to fight like crazy to keep him, but Lee stuck to his word and remained loyal. That says a lot about the kid and we are fortunate to have him here."

The Daphne, Ala., native rushed for 2,380 yards in his two years at Coffeyville to go with 21 rushing touchdowns. Baker's 1,480 yards on the ground in 2003 went down as the sixth-highest total in school history. For the season, Baker had 10 games of 100 or more yards rushing, including a 155-yard performance against Dodge City and a 148-yard effort in the second round of the playoffs against Hutchinson.

Baker, who will be used as a wide receiver at MT, played his prep football at Daphne High School where he was tabbed the Alabama Offensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior, and led his team to a perfect 15-0 record and a state title in 2001.

Baker joins Cade Becher (Scottsdale CC), DeMarcus Green (Glendale CC), Ralph King (Riverdale HS), and Quinton Staton (East Tennessee State) as mid-term signees.
