CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Lindsey Vander Lugt hurled a shutout and allowed just two hits as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (24-22, 11-6 SBC) continued their successful non-conference road trip by defeating the Austin Peay Lady Govs (20-22, 7-10 OVC) at Lady Govs Field in Clarksville, Tenn. on Thursday, 4-0.

The Blue Raiders came into the doubleheader attempting to stretch their winning streak to four games. On Wednesday night, they moved over the .500 mark by defeating the Louisville Cardinals, 6-3. The game was highlighted by the continued amazing defensive play by shortstop Shelby Stiner.

Vander Lugt (17-14) picked up her third straight win of the season and with the complete game she moved into third all-time for most innings pitched in a season with 207, surpassing former Blue Raider ace Jennifer Martinez.

Natasha Anderson (15-13) got the loss for the Lady Govs, giving up two earned runs on nine hits, while striking out eight and walking one, in the complete game effort.

Middle Tennessee took an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Justine Cerda singled, driving in Ashley Cline. Earlier in the inning, Cline had stolen her team-leading 26th stolen base of the season to put herself into scoring position.

The Blue Raiders increased their lead to 3-0 in the 3rd inning thanks to a 2 RBI double by Martha Davis, scoring Whitney Darlington and Caitlin McLure.

Cline and Darlington each had two hits to lead the MT offense.

Stiner scored Middle Tennessee's fourth and final run thanks to a throwing error by the center fielder to make it 4-0 and that was all they needed in route to picking up their fourth straight victory on the season.

The second game of the doubleheader is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
