Lady Raiders Fall to Arkansas State 69-62

JONESBORO, Ark. - Middle Tennessee (10-4, 0-1 SBC) fell 69-62 to Arkansas State (10-4, 2-0 SBC) Thursday at the Convocation Center in its opening Sun Belt contest.

Middle Tennessee was trailing by one (31-30) at the half, but Arkansas State went on a 10-2 run to start the second half. The Lady Raiders began to chip away at the lead and pulled ahead 47-46 on a three- point basket by Patrice Holmes.

Senior Jennifer Justice pushed Middle Tennessee to a five point lead on a lay-up, but Arkansas State came back to answer on a three point bucket by Ali Carter. The Lady Indian's Rudy Sims came back down after a missed lay-up by Middle Tennessee to drain a huge three-point shot and ASU never relinquished the lead again.

In the final eight minutes of the game, Middle Tennessee could only score 11 points. The Lady Raiders had 22 turnovers in the game, with 14 of them coming in the first half.

Holmes led the Lady Raiders with 17 points including 5-of-12 from behind the three-point line. Sophomore Tia Stovall added 10 points and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Jennifer Justice ended the game with 11 points.

Middle Tennessee continues its road swing as the Lady Raiders travel to Arkansas-Little Rock. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. Saturday.
