Tandem will play in third straight NCAA Tournament, earned second consecutive All-America honors
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee seniors Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Doubles Championships, as announced by the NCAA on Wednesday. The tournament begins May 24 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Born-Siljestrom earned one of the top eight seeds in the 32-team field, automatically garnering a second straight All-America honor. The tandem is ranked sixth nationally in this week's FILA ITA rankings and are seeded 5-8 in the field.
Born and Siljestrom join elite company with their second straight All-America honors. Fred Niemeyer is the only other Blue Raider player to earn two doubles All-America accolades, doing it first in 1994 with Paul Goebel and then in 1996 with Anthony DeLuise.
The Blue Raider duo will enter this year's tournament at basically the same position as in 2006 when they were also seeded 5-8 and won three times before falling in the semifinals to Pepperdine's second-seeded Andrew Begemann and Scott Doerner, 6-3, 7-6 (7).
Born-Siljestrom is the only doubles team from the Sun Belt Conference and joins Denver's Adam Holmstrom, Florida Atlantic's Oliver Sajous and South Alabama's Marek Sramek as the only individuals from the league in the field.
