MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom got breaks in the middle of both sets and defeated William & Mary, 6-4, 6-4, Friday in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Doubles Championships in Athens, Ga.
Born-Siljestrom advance to the quarterfinals Saturday to take on the winner of LSU's 22nd-ranked James Cluskey and Ken Skupski and Florida's third-ranked Jesse Levine and Greg Ouellette. The match will not start before Noon CT on Saturday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.
The Middle Tennessee duo broke in the seventh game of the first set and the eighth game of the second set against William & Mary's 21st-ranked Alexandru Cojanu and Colin O'Brien.
"Outside of one hiccup I thought we played solid, a little better than [Thursday]," head coach Dale Short said. "We served and returned well and took advantage of our break opportunities.
"The pressure enhances with each round because the competition gets better, but the guys have been here before. We just have to continue getting better with each match," Short added.
Live video is available at Henry Feild Stadium but not at McWhorter Courts at the Magill Tennis Complex. Second round singles action will take place Thursday morning followed by the first round of doubles competition.
