Volleyball Completes 2007 Roster
Alyssa King and Izabela Kozon complete the 2007 Blue Raider rosterJune 15, 2007 · MT Media Relations
King, a 6-0 setter from Rochelle Township High School in Rochelle, Ill., was elected the Best Setter after leading her Club Fusion 18 team to a second place finish at the International Volleyball Tournament in Memory of Victor Filipchenko in Moscow, Russia in May.
Prior to her success internationally, King led her Club Fusion teams to back-to-back runner-up finishes in the Open Division at the USAV Junior National Championships in 2005 and 2006, and a third place finish in 2004 in the National Division. She was selected as an USAV All-American for her efforts in 2006.
"Alyssa has competed at the very top level of volleyball, both nationally and internationally, since 2004," Peck said. "She is a very advanced setter, as well as a skilled and athletic attacker. She is a great get for our program, and having two setters like Alyssa and Leslie [Clark] on our team will enable us to train and play at a much higher level this fall."
As a 6-0 outside hitter from Warsaw, Poland, Kozon has been a member of the Polish Junior National Team for three years earning Most Valuable Player honors in 2007 at the Polish Junior National Championship after her team finished third.
From 2003-06, Kozon attended N.L.O. Szkola Mistrzostwa Sportowego - Polskiego Zwiazku Pilki Siatkowe (Championship Sport School of the Polish Volleyball Federation), where she was one of 12 ladies selected each of the three years. During that time, she was a member of the Polish National Cadet Team and competed in the European Cadet Championship.
"Iza will immediately raise the playing level of our program," Peck said. "She is an outstanding attacker but also a great passer and defender. Seeing her play in person convinced us that we absolutely had to have her play for us."
Last season, Middle Tennessee earned their second NCAA Tournament berth since the program began in 1977, after capturing the Sun Belt Tournament title. The Blue Raiders defeated Louisville before falling to No. 18 Ohio State in the second round.
