MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's men's tennis team opens the fall schedule this weekend hosting the 21st Annual MT Fall Invitational at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center. The field features eight teams and more than 50 players, including Mississippi State, Louisville and Memphis along with the Blue Raiders.
Mississippi State's 40th-ranked Phillippe Frayssinoux is the top seed in the Championship Flight, while 76th-ranked Blue Raider Marc Rocafort is the No. 2 seed and Amrit Narasimham of Memphis, ranked 98th nationally, is the No. 3 seed. Rocafort will take on Louisville's Viktor Maksimcuk in the first round on Friday at 10:30 a.m., while fellow Blue Raider Morgan Richard takes on Morehead State's Greg Johnstone at 9:30 a.m., also in the Championship Flight.
In Flight A1 singles, junior Joao Paoliello plays Belmont's Felipe Cirne Lima at 8:30 a.m. and redshirt freshman Richard Cowden faces Morehead State's Charles Williams at 9:30 a.m. In Flight A2, sophomore Alex McCann takes on Belmont's Zach Zola at 8:30 a.m. and newcomer Chris Nowak plays Austin Peay's Jay Wilkinson, also at 8:30 a.m. Freshman Derrick Davison faces Western Kentucky's Currie Martin 8:30 a.m. and senior Marc Boiron takes on Morehead State's Doug Song at 8:30 a.m. in A3 singles.
In doubles action, Rocafort and Richard play Johnstone and Song at 3 p.m. and Paoliello and Cowden takes on Narasimhan and Jimmy Khougassian of Memphis, also at 3 p.m., in A1. McCann and Boiron face Thomas Krug and Martin at 3:30 p.m. in A2.
The schedule calls for two singles and one doubles match on Friday, one singles and two doubles matches on Saturday and then championship matches on Sunday. With the weather forecast calling for a 100 percent chance of rain on Friday, the schedule could be changed and moved indoors at the Racquet Club of Murfreesboro until the rain passes.
