Blue Raiders Perform Well at St. Mary's Classic

Junior Marlene Chemin and senior Ann-Kristin Siljestrom defeat Tennessee in first match for Blue Raiders

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team won two doubles matches on Friday in the St. Mary's Tennis Classic hosted by the University of Tennessee.

Junior Marlene Chemin and senior Ann-Kristin Siljestrom defeated host Tennessee's Connor Vogel and Ghizela Schutt 8-4. Chemin and Siljestrom will play East Tennessee State's Yevgeniya Stupak and Olya Butsula on Saturday in the second round of the tournament.

Junior Elvira Yusupova and sophomore Stephanie Parkison won their match against East Tennessee State's Andrea Voinea and Brittany Stewart 8-5.

Yusupova and Parkison will face Bailey Louderback and Colleen Rielley of Notre Dame in the second round of the tournament on Saturday.

Senior Claudia Szabo and freshman Shannon Hartmann lost to Caitlin Whoriskey and Zsofia Zubor of Tennessee 8-1. Szabo and Hartmann will play Purdue's Brooke Beier and Cigden Duru on Saturday.

Junior Pooja Kommireddi and freshman Andrea Herrera lost to Georgia's Adrienne Elsberry and Cameron Ellis 8-1. Kommireddi and Herrera will face Bleakely and Barringer of N.C. State on Saturday.

Singles play at the St. Mary's Classic was postponed on Friday due to inclement weather in the Knoxville area but has been rescheduled for Saturday.

The Blue Raiders will play their singles matches beginning at 9 a.m. Results will be posted on www.goblueraiders.com as soon as it becomes available.
