Two Doubles Teams Advance to Finals

Junior Elvira Yusupova and sophomore Stephanie Parkison win three matches on Saturday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team had two doubles teams advance to the finals of the doubles tournament at St. Mary's Classic hosted by the University of Tennessee.

Junior Marlene Chemin and senior Ann-Kristin Siljestrom defeated East Tennessee State's Yevgeniya Stupak and Olya Butsula 8-6. In the finals, Chemin and Siljestrom fell to Ciobanu and Rafael of Notre Dame 8-1.

Junior Elvira Yusupova and sophomore Stephanie Parkison won their match with Bailey Louderback and Colleen Rielley of Notre Dame 9-7. Yusupova and Parkison won their match with ETSU's Dzeva and Boeker 8-4.

Senior Claudia Szabo and freshman Shannon Hartmann fell to Purdue's Brooke Beier and Cigden Duru 8-3. Szabo and Hartmann will play in the consolation match on Saturday when they face Petrovic and Hojckova of N.C. State.

Junior Pooja Kommireddi and freshman Andrea Herrera fell to Bleakely and Barringer of N.C. State 8-3. Then in the consolation match, Kommireddi and Herrera defeated Byrne and Sheets of ETSU 8-4.

Singles play at the St. Mary's Classic was postponed on Friday due to inclement weather in the Knoxville area but has been rescheduled for Saturday.

The Blue Raiders will play their singles matches beginning at 9 a.m. Results will be posted on www.goblueraiders.com as soon as it becomes available.
