Blue Raiders Begin Singles Play at St. Mary's Classic

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Junior Pooja Kommireddi and freshman Andrea Herrera won their singles matches on Day Two of the St. Mary's Classic hosted by the University of Tennessee.

Kommireddi defeated Vita Moskoliva of East Tennessee State 7-6 (5), 6-1 to begin the singles tournament. Kommireddi then fell to North Carolina's Linzee Marbury 6-2, 6-0. Kommireddi will face Natalia Baez of Louisville in the consolation match of the winner's bracket at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Herrera defeated Whitney Reys of Purdue 6-2, 6-3. Herrera will play ETSU's Brittany Stewart on Sunday.

Sophomore Stephanie Parkison fell to Sasha Kuilkova of Wake Forest 6-0, 6-2. Then in the loser's bracket Parkison fell to Neils Barringer of N.C. State, 6-2, 6-1. Parkison will play in the consolation match on Sunday at 11 a.m. against Tara Byrne of East Tennessee State.

Louisville's Lindsey Jones defeated junior Elivra Yusupova 6-0, 6-4 on Saturday. Yusupova then fell to Cosmina Ciobanu 6-0, 6-3. In the consolation match on Sunday, Yusupova will play Olay Batsula of ETSU at 10:30 a.m.

Junior Marlene Chemin fell to Tennessee's Ghizela Schutte 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-2. Then Chemin played Joanna Craven of Purdue. The score of the match was not reported but Chemin will play in the consolation on Sunday. Chemin will face Tara Sheets of ETSU at 10 a.m.

Senior Claudia Zsabo fell to Georgia's Cameron Ellis 6-1, 6-2. Zsabo then fell to Bianca Gorbea of Louisville 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. Zsabo will face Elena Volobueva of ETSU at 10 a.m. on Sunday in the consolation match.

Senior Ann-Kristen Siljestrom fell to Emilee Malvehy of Wake Forest 6-0, 6-2. N.C. State's Kristen Bleakley defeated Siljestrom in the loser's bracket 6-1, 6-4. Siljestrom will play Whitney Trotter of ETSU at 9 a.m. on Sunday in the consolation match.

Freshman Shannon Hartman fell to Jenna Loeb from Wake Forest 6-2, 6-1. Hartman then lost to Louisville's Katherina Tomalak 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 in the loser's bracket. On Sunday at 9 a.m. Hartman will play Andra Voinea of Louisville.

In doubles action, Kommireddi and Herrera defeated Byrne and Sheets of ETSU 8-5 in the consolation match. Szabo and Hartmann lost to Petrovic and Hojckova of N.C. State 8-5.
