Cowden, Rocafort Fall in Finals

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Sophomore Marc Rocafort and redshirt freshman Richard Cowden both reached the finals, but lost in straight sets Sunday on the final day of competition at the 21st Annual Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.

Rocafort won twice on Saturday to reach the Championship Flight Singles finals and Cowden received a default in his first match Sunday to make the A1 Singles finals.

In the Championship Singles Flight, 76th-ranked Rocafort lost to Mississippi State's 40th-ranked Phillippe Frayssinoux, 0-6, 1-6, in the finals. In the consolation bracket, junior Morgan Richard defeated Louisville's Viktor Maksimcuk, 6-3, 6-1.

Belmont's Javier Rodriguez did not show for a semifinal match with Cowden. Cowden dropped a 5-7, 5-7, decision to Morehead State's Greg Anderson in the Flight A1 finals.

In Flight A2, sophomore Alex McCann dropped a 2-6, 4-6, decision to Spencer Heflin of Memphis in the semifinals, while in Flight A3, senior Marc Boiron lost to Louisville's Morten Sivertsen, 2-6, 3-6, in the finals.

ONE OTHER TENNIS NOTE: Middle Tennessee's Kevin Green and Michael Paul will be heading to San Diego, Calif., this week for the Wheelchair U.S. Open that starts on Wednesday. Green and Paul are the defending champions at the event.
