Blue Raiders Blast Motlow State in Doubleheader

In the first game, the Blue Raiders scored 14 runs on nine hits in the top of the first inning. Brittney Banania drew a leadoff walk and stole second before an infield single by Caitlin McLure put runners on the corners.
Justine Cerda's groundout to short plated Banania. Abel then laced a triple just inside the first base line, scoring a run, and Whitney Darlington followed with an RBI single to left. Martha Davis then tripled off the base of the wall in leftcenter and Jessica Ives and Whittney Padgett both walked, loading the bases.
Davis then grounded to third, but Motlow catcher Kayla Cole dropped the throw, allowing Davis to score. Banania's infield single plated another run before McLure grounded back to the pitcher. The throw from Lindsay Clark was high and went to the backstop, allowing two runners to cross the plate.
Corrie Abel plated two runs with a single through the leftside and Darlington followed with a single to left. A double to leftcenter from Davis scored Abel before Ives belted a three-run homer just inside the leftfield foul pole for the final runs of the frame.
Middle Tennessee added four more runs on five hits in the second inning. Katie Mielke reached on an error by Motlow leftfielder Alyssa Elsaesser. Banania bunted her way on and the pitcher's throw sailed down the rightfield line, allowing Mielke to score. McLure singled through the leftside and Abel plated a pair of runs with a double to leftcenter. Darlington's double down the leftfield line plated Abel for an 18-0 advantage.
Lindsey Vander Lugt allowed just two hits and held the Lady Bucks scoreless over the remainder of the game as the Blue Raiders opened the fall season with the victory. The sophomore ace allowed just four hits while striking out two in the complete game outing.
In the second game, Kellie Head allowed just one run on four hits in five innings of complete game action. Banania once again drew a leadoff walk and stole second base before scoring on an Abel triple to rightcenter field.
The Blue Raiders added two more runs in the third inning. Ives singled through the left side before Abel reached first base on an error by the centerfielder. Davis ripped a single to centerfield plating pinch runner Kandra Singleton and Abel scored on an ensuing error by Lady Bucs catcher Kayla Cole to put MT up 4-0.
Motlow State scored there only run of the game in the 4th inning when Cole blasted a solo shot to deep center field, cutting the Blue Raider lead to 4-1.
Mielke drew a walk to lead off the fourth inning before Banania reached on an error by Lady Bucs first baseman Amanda Joslyn. Middle Tennessee scored their final runs of the contest when Ives doubled down the left field line plating Banania and Mielke for the 6-1 advantage.
The Blue Raiders return to action at the Club K September Slam Tournament in Hendersonville, Tenn. on Saturday against Alabama-Huntsville.
