Blue Raiders Finish Strong at UTC Tourney

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee performed well on the final day of the UTC Steve Baras Collegiate Fall Classic as it won four championship matches.

The Blue Raiders faced one another in three of the championship matches on Sunday.

Junior Elvira Yusupova fell to Eastern Kentucky's Svetlana Pimenova in the championship match of the A flight 7-5, 6-2.

Senior Claudia Szabo defeated senior Ann-Kristin Siljestrom on Sunday in the championship match of B singles, 6-4, 6-0.

Junior Pooja Kommireddi defeated freshman Andrea Herrera 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the championship match of C singles.

In doubles play, senior Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and junior Marlene Chemin, seeded first in the A flight, defeated teammates senior Claudia Szabo and redshirt freshman Shannan Hartmann, who were seeded third, 8-6.

Sophomore Stephanie Parkison and Yusupova defeated UNA's Waites and Zalenskaya, in the championship match of B doubles, 8-4.

In the consolation finals of B doubles, Herrera and Kommireddi defeated Amman and Page 8-5.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Oct. 17-21 when travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. to play in the ITA Southeast Regional Championships.
