LEXINGTON, Ky. - Mallory Bishop continued to climb the leader board with another solid golf round at the Wildcat Fall Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky, Sunday.
Bishop was even on the par-72 course at the University Club of Kentucky in the second round and stands tied for sixth at 2-over 146 entering Monday's final round. Leigh Wilkins was 4-over Sunday and is tied for 15th at 6-over 150 through two rounds.
Middle Tennessee is tied with Mississippi State for eighth after shooting 25-over 313 Sunday. The Blue Raiders are at 618 entering the final round which puts them just ahead of Miami and Memphis, and they are within 12 strokes of making a run at a top five finish. Alabama leads the tournament at 5-over 582.
"We can make a pretty good run with a strong round Monday," Middle Tennessee coach Rachael Short said. "We have had some good individual play but we haven't had our best round as a team at this tournament and hopefully it will come in the final round. (Bishop and Wilkins) have been solid both days and they have been steady."
Bishop was about as steady as it gets with her second-round play. She parred 16 holes and after her only bogey of the round on No. 5, Bishop came right back and nailed her only birdie on the par-4 six and never suffered another slip.
Wilkins was 3-over on the front nine but rallied to play the back at 1-over and remain among the top 15 players in the strong field. Taryn Durham is tied for 32nd at 11-over 155, while Jamey Dillard (167) and Clara Leathers (173) are tied for 65th and 72nd respectively.
