Cox, Carter Score Twice in 4-2 White VictoryAugust 25, 2001 · MT Media Relations
The White squad took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Cox scored late in the opening half on an assist from Lindsey Bopp. Carter gave the White a 2-0 advantage just two minutes into the second half with an unassisted score.
Cox added her second goal of the contest about eight minutes into the second half on an assist from Carter for a 3-1 White lead. Sarah Schulz made it 3-2 with an unassisted goal for the Blue just two minutes later. But Carter tallied the final score near the end of the second half on an assist from Sheri Robbins for the 4-2 White victory.
"We've had good practices, and the scrimmage went well," second-year head coach Scott Ginn said. "We have come a long way as a team, and the competitiveness in practice has increased.
"We are much further along than I thought we would be with so many new players. Twenty-three players have passed the fitness test and that's terrific. It really shows the commitment they had over the summer in getting ready for the preseason."
The Blue Raiders will take off the next two days. Ginn and his squad will then practice Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday before playing the season-opener in the Southern Miss Tournament in Hattiesburg, Miss., against the homestanding Golden Eagles at 5 p.m. on Friday. MT will also take on Nicholls State at 1 p.m. Sunday in the tourney.
