Softball Splits at Evansville Tourney
March 13, 2004 · MT Media RelationsIn the opening game, the Lady Raiders put together 15 hits and 13 runs in the high scoring affair. Cortney Mitchell led the squad going 3-of-4 with one run and one RBI and also hit her sixth double of the season. Junior Dani DeCamino also had a breakout game as she went 3-of-5, scoring three runs and had three RBI and also hit two doubles.
Middle Tennessee opened the game with nine runs in the bottom of the first inning and Ball State came back in the third to add three to make the score 9-3. The Lady Raiders scored one run in the third, one in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Junior hurler Crystal Bobo picked up the win, going 5.2 innings and striking out five. Brittany Herald closed out the game with 1.1 innings of action.
The Lady Raiders played their second extra inning game of the year, coming up short against host Evansville 2-1. The game was scoreless through the first four innings before Evansville scored on a RBI single by Natalie Heldt. Middle Tennessee answered in the bottom of the fifth with an Angie Huebner homerun over the left field wall. Evansville got the decisive run in the top of the eighth inning on an RBI double by Casey Clutch.
