Bulle, Smith tied for fifth at Squire Creek Classic
Blue Raiders fourth overallOctober 15, 2007 · MT Media Relations
Second-round play was halted when a line of severe thunderstorms hit the area four holes into the round. The plan is to complete the second round and play the third round Tuesday.
Middle Tennessee was in fourth out of the 18-team field with a 3-over 291 after the first round and is within nine shots of Mississippi's 282 lead heading into Tuesday's final two rounds. Jacksonville State (284) and LSU (290) are second and third, respectively.
"Craig and Kent came out and played real well today," Middle Tennessee coach Whit Turnbow said. "They kind of set the tone for us and we have put ourselves in position to do some good things here in the final two rounds."
After starting the season slow by his standards Bulle played his final round at the Brickyard Collegiate more to his liking and carried some of that momentum into Monday's round.
"I started hitting the ball better in the final round of the last tournament and I got off to a pretty good start here," Bulle said. "The main thing is just staying out of trouble and not leaving shots out there. Things are starting to come together but there's always room for improvement."
Smith, the low medalist at the 2007 Sun Belt Championships, has also seen his all-around play improve with each of Middle Tennessee first four fall tournaments and is looking for a strong finish in the final two fall events. Monday's play was a step in that direction.
