Women Begin Qualifying Play

Four Blue Raiders Play in ITA Southeast Region Tournament

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team began qualifying play at the ITA Southeast Region Tournament hosted by the University of North Carolina on Thursday.

Junior Marlene Chemin fell to Arielle Vonstrolley of UNC-G, seeded 10th in the tournament, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in the qualifying round.

Also in the qualifying draw, junior Pooja Kommireddi lost her match with Furman's Natasa Manojolovic, 6-4, 6-0.

In doubles, Kommireddi and senior Claudia Szabo fell to Jelena Durisic and Linzee Mabrey of North Carolina 8-3.

Chemin and senior Ann-Kristin Siljestrom, seeded ninth in the doubles main draw, will face Virginia Berry and Kelsey Linville of Davidson at 6 p.m. on Friday.

In the singles main draw, Siljestrom will face Austin Smith of UNC, seeded ninth, at 11 a.m. on Friday.

Szabo will play Ashley Rogers of NC-Central at 2 p.m. on Friday in the main draw.

Other members of the women's tennis team will play in the Jun Stewart Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt University on Friday, Oct. 19 through Sunday, Oct. 21.
