LEXINGTON, Ky. - The men's tennis team began the ITA Southeast Indoor Region championships with two wins on Thursday.
Redshirt sophomore Joao Pailiello defeated Doug Song of Morehead State 6-2, 6-0. Pailiello will face Kentucky's Brad Cox at 10 a.m. on Friday.
Freshman John Peers won his match with Bryant Salcedo of Vanderbilt 6-3, 6-0. Peers will play Christian Vitulli of Georgia at 8 a.m. on Friday.
Georgia's Chris Motes defeated Redshirt freshman Richard Cowden 6-3, 6-1. Cowden will face Augusto Alvarado of Georgia State at 3 p.m. on Friday in the consolation draw.
Sophomore Alex McCann fell to Vijay Paul of Vanderbilt 6-1, 6-1.
Sophomore Marc Rocafort is seeded in the tournament and has received a bye through Friday at 6:30 p.m. when he will play the winner of Matt Leboucher (SE Louisiana) and Michael Moore (Florida A&M).
Junior Morgan Richard is also seeded in the tournament. Richard will face Tyler Hochwalt of Florida at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
Peers and redshirt freshman Chris Nowak will play Hicham Laalej and Danai Stamp of Stetson at 8 p.m. on Friday.
Also in doubles action, Cowden and Pailiello will face Morehead State's Song and Lovell Medcalf Friday at 8 p.m.
Richard and Rocafort will pair up to play Struyf and Saketh Myneni of Alabama at 9:30 p.m. on Friday.
Play will run continue through Monday, Oct. 22. Results will be posted on www.goblueraiders.com as soon as they are available.
