Middle Tennessee Plays Well in Nashville

Hererra and Hartmann Lead Blue Raiders on Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Blue Raiders performed well on the opening day of Vanderbilt's June Stewart Invitational.

Redshirt freshman Shannon Hartmann defeated Julianne McMeen of UT-Martin 6-1, 6-1, in the Marshall Summar draw. Hartmann will play UTM's Belisa De Brito on Saturday. Then on Sunday, Hartmann will play Martie Wahl of UTM.

In the same draw, freshman Andrea Herrera defeated Indiana's Erin Clark 6-2, 6-2. Herrera will face Mary Beth Gunn of UTM on Saturday. Herrera will play McMeen on Sunday.

In the Craig Clark draw, sophomore Stephanie Parkison fell to Arizona State's Kelcy McKenna 6-1, 6-1. In the consolation bracket, Parkison will play Indiana's Charlotte Martin on Saturday.

Elvira Yusupova lost her match with Sigrid Fischer of Indiana 6-1, 6-2 in the Edward Collins draw. Yusupova will play Arizona State's Jessica Leitch in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

In doubles action, Yusupova and Parkison fell to Sveke and K. Ulery of Vanderbilt 8-4 in the Michael Chad Crunk doubles draw. Yusupova and Parkison defeated UTM's Schoonees and Koornhof 9-8 (7-4). On Saturday, Parkison and Yusupova will play for seventh place in the draw when they face Berdala and Stuckey of Indiana.

Also in doubles action, Herrera and Hartmann fell to Stephanie Heller and Martin of Indiana 8-1. The duo fell to UTM's Sara Leavy and De Brito 8-4.

On Saturday, Herrera and Hartmann have a rematch will Heller and Martin on Saturday in the Joanne Eskreis draw.
