Middle Tennessee Downs Warhawks 3-0

MONROE, La. - Junior Ashley Asberry and sophomore Ashley Mead combined for 23 kills on Friday night leading the Blue Raiders to a 3-0 (30-18, 30-25, 30-25) win over Louisiana-Monroe.

Mead posted 12 kills with a .381 hitting percentage while Asberry notched 11 kills for a team high .562 hitting percentage. Asberry also led Middle Tennessee defensively with five block assists.

Junior Ashley Adams and sophomore Sasha McGlothin each posted nine kills for the Blue Raiders in the match.

The Blue Raiders improve to 9-1 in Sun Belt conference play and 22-2 on the season. ULM has yet to win a match this season falling to 0-23 overall and 0-10 in league play.

Defensively, senior Alicia Lemau'u, sophomore Ashley Waugh and Adams each had eight digs in the match.

Middle Tennessee began the match by jumping out to a ten-point lead, 17-7. Then the Blue Raiders continued to dominate extending the lead to 12 for the 30-18 win.

The Warhawks proved to be a little tougher in game two, allowing the Blue Raiders to take a six-point lead, 7-1 before cutting the gap and knotting the score at 14.

The two teams continued to trade points before the Blue Raiders began to pull ahead, 25-23 and held ULM to just two more points in the game, 30-25 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In game three, Middle Tennessee jumped out to a 14-8 lead scoring four straight point behind Lemau'u's serve. The Blue Raiders maintained a five-point lead late, 18-13.

As a team, Middle Tennessee knocked down 49 kills for a .407 hitting percentage. The Blue Raiders also had nine total blocks and 41 digs.

ULM recorded 43 kills of its own but only hit .188 for the match with seven blocks. Ilima Sam Fong led the Warhawks with her 11 kills posting a .133 hitting percentage.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 20 when it faces Louisiana-Lafayette at 7 p.m. Then the Blue Raiders will have Sunday off before playing New Orleans at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22.
