Rocafort leads Middle Tennessee on Friday

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Sophomore Marc Rocafort led the men's tennis team on Friday at the ITA Southeast Indoor Region championships.

Rocafort, who is seeded 15th in the tournament, defeated Matt Michael Moore of Florida A&M 6-1, 6-1. Rocafort will face Tennessee's J.P. Smith, who is seeded 23rd, in the round of 32 at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Redshirt freshman Richard Cowden defeated Augusto Alvarado of Georgia State 6-1, 6-2 in the consolation draw.

Sophomore Alex McCann won his match with Joey Jones of Stetson who with drew from the consolation draw due to injury.

Redshirt sophomore Joao Paoliello lost a tough match to Kentucky's Brad Cox 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (15).

Freshman John Peers fell to Christian Vitulli of Georgia 6-1, 6-2.

Junior Morgan Richard, who is seeded 25th, fell to Tyler Hochwalt 6-3, 6-3 in the round of 64.

Peers and redshirt freshman Chris Nowak defeated Hicham Laalej and Danai Stamp of Stetson 9-8 (5). Peers and Nowak will play Thibaudeau and Buikema of Alabama at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Also in doubles action, Cowden and Paoliello defeated Morehead State's Doug Song and Lovell Medcalf 8-4. The pair will face Alabama's Merts and Bes at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Richard and Rocafort fell to Struyf and Saketh Myneni of Alabama 9-8 (5).

Play will run continue through Monday, Oct. 22. Results will be posted on www.goblueraiders.com as soon as they are available.
