Middle Tennessee Returns Home to Close Season
Blue Raiders prepared for re-match with FAU and FIU.October 25, 2007 · MT Media Relations
Middle Tennessee defeated both teams 3-0 on the road two weeks ago as freshman Izabela Kozon earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors for her performance against each school.
"I think we played very well when we were in Florida. I think since then we have played okay but not our best. I know that FAU is trying to make the conference tournament so I think they will play well. FIU wasn't playing particularly well we went down there but seems to be playing very well right now," head coach Matt Peck said. "We very well know that there is a lot on the line this weekend for everyone including ourselves. We have a situation where New Orleans beat Western and then we beat New Orleans that gives us the opportunity to win the conference outright going into that last match as long as we remain undefeated from now on."
The Blue Raiders are 11-1 in league play and 24-2 overall. FAU is 3-9 in Sun Belt play and has an overall record of 6-16. The Golden Panthers are currently third in the league with an 8-4 record and are 13-6 overall.
"This is a big weekend. I know FIU would like to improve their seeding for the conference tournament and they are playing well right now. We are expecting these two Florida schools to give it 100 percent this weekend and play us pretty tough," Peck said.
The Blue Raiders return to Alumni Memorial Gym after six straight matches on the road in which they lost only one ending the stretch 5-1. Middle Tennessee played two Monday matches in the stretch that saw them play in three states.
Middle Tennessee will not have to travel again until it leaves for Denver, Colo., on Nov. 15 to play in the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
"I am hoping we play a good match on both Friday and Saturday. Especially on Saturday because they are playing Western on Friday night and I know it is difficult for most teams to play both of us. We are really looking forward to this weekend," Peck said.
A live broadcast of each match will be available on www.goblueraiders.com. Live stats may also be found on www.goblueraiders.com. Admission to all Blue Raider volleyball matches is free.
