Durham sets another record with first-round 66
Blue Raiders fifth at Pat BradleyOctober 29, 2007 · MT Media Relations
The Blue Raiders shot 32-over 608 as a team and are in fifth place overall after Monday's 36 holes. The final round will be played Tuesday.
"The players really came out focused and I was interested to see how they would respond after the brief layoff we have had," Middle Tennessee coach Rachael Short said. "We have been practicing but there is a difference between playing and practicing. Our players had the right approach and they were consistent. We put ourselves in position going into the final round."
Durham came out hot with a 6-under 66 in the first round to break her own standard for best round, bettering the 67 she shot on two different occasions last season. She followed with a 76 in the second round and is second overall with a 2-under 142. South Florida's Kylene Pulley leads the field.
Durham birdied 10 of the 36 holes and is leading the tournament in par 4 scoring at 2-under.
Middle Tennessee's 608 is nine shots behind leader South Florida and just two shots separate the third through fifth place teams in the bunched field.
Freshman Cecilia Orevik continued to play well. She is tied for 17th with a 153 entering the final round and junior Mallory Bishop was solid and is tied for 25th with a 155. Clara Leathers (158) and Tasha Gough (166) are tied for 34th and 54th respectively.
Leathers knocked in six birdies in the first two rounds which is seventh among the competitors, and the well-rounded Bishop was as steady as usual with 23 pars on her way to a good two rounds. Durham and Orevik were 2-under on the par 5s which was third best in the first two rounds.
