November 4, 2007 ·
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee took care of business on Saturday night defeating Troy University 3-0 (30-12, 30-23, 30-13).

The Blue Raiders improve to 28-2 overall and 15-1 in Sun Belt Conference play while Troy falls to 6-9 in league play and 15-16 overall.

It was a special night for Middle Tennessee as head coach Matt Peck recorded his 100th win at Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders also have the most wins in Sun Belt Conference play since joining the league in 2000.

"It was a special night because sharing in those victories were seniors Megan, Alicia and Quanshell who have been here since my first year. It was fun for them also to celebrate their 100th win in the program. Not too many collegiate volleyball players get to say that. Hopefully we will get to add to that before it is all said and done," head coach Matt Peck said.

"We played very well tonight. Troy played Western Kentucky tough last night and I think we were ready to be challenged."

Junior Ashley Asberry led the Blue Raiders on both sides of the ball as she knocked down 12 kills with a .733 hitting percentage and four block assists.

Freshman Izabela Kozon recorded 11 kills while junior Ashley Adams added ten of her own.

"The Ashley's (Asberry and Adams) played great offensively and defensively," Peck said. "We were able to run our offense due to outstanding passing. Alicia, Ashley Waugh and Izabela did a great job of keeping us in system when Troy was serving."

As a team, Middle Tennessee had nine blocks as it held Troy to five. The Blue Raiders also had 51 kills for a .394 hitting percentage. Troy recorded just 24 kills with a .071 hitting percentage for the match.

The Blue Raiders dominated in game one never allowing Troy to get anything started as it took a 30-12 win.

In game two, Middle Tennessee took an early 16-7 lead. Then Troy got back in the game late closing the gap, 27-19.

At the break, Asberry led Middle Tennessee with nine kills for a .667 hitting percentage. She was followed by Kozon with eight and Adams with seven kills.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 9 when it plays host to conference rival Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. Friday's match with the Lady Toppers will determine the Sun Belt Conference East Division Champion and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.

"This was the scenario that we were hoping for that our final match would determine the regular season conference champions. Here we are first and second with them coming to our gym. You could not ask for better scenario. This is what college athletics is all about and we are please to be playing this match for the top seed," Peck said.

Live video streaming and live stats of the match may be found on www.goblueraiders.com. Admission to all home volleyball matches is free.
