Ashley Adams named Sun Belt Player of the Year while head coach Matt Peck named Sun Belt Coach of the Year.
NEW ORLEANS, La. - Middle Tennessee racked up all-conference honors including Player of the Year and Coach of the Year heading into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Junior Ashley Adams and head coach Matt Peck were named Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively. Adams was also received First Team All-Conference honors.
This season Adams has been named Sun Belt Player of the Week twice and Tournament MVP in all four of Middle Tennessee's tournaments this season.
In just four seasons, at the helm of Middle Tennessee Peck has an over all record of 101-28 and an impressive 49-11 Sun Belt record.
Joining Adams on the First Team were teammates junior Ashley Asberry and sophomore Leslie Clark.
"I was really pleased to see all three of our players get recognized with all-conference accolades. Ashley Asberry and Ashley Adams are repeats from last year and that really didn't surprise me. I am just so excited to see Leslie get the recognition she deserves," head coach Matt Peck said. "I think we have good depth. It is awesome to see these kids get recognized for this. I am very honored to be selected Coach of the Year. I have great respect for the coaches in this conference. I think we have some outstanding coaches with very long tenure in the conference. For me, still being a relatively new kid on the block here it is a great honor. I really appreciate it."
Adams and Asberry are leading the Sun Belt in a number of categories including kills per game, hitting percentage and blocks per game while Clark is at the top of the league in assists and assists per game. Clark is also eighth in the NCAA rankings in assists per game with 13.80.
"I think a lot of people look at our team and think what great hitters they have but that only happens because of what Leslie is doing and the decisions she is making. I am just thrilled that she made it. She has put up great numbers this year leading the conference in assists per game, in the top-10 in the nation in assists per game. She is just a great teammate and the same with Ashley Adams and Ashley Asberry," Peck said.
The Blue Raiders will begin the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Denver, Colo., on Thursday at 1 p.m. when they face-off with Arkansas State.
