Lady Raiders Finish Sixth at Southern Miss

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee freshman Maggie McGill fired a final-round 75, leading the Lady Raiders to a sixth-place finish Tuesday at Shadow Ridge Golf Club in Hattiesburg, Miss.

McGill, who had three rounds in the 70's after posting rounds of 78 and 79 on Monday, had the best final round on Tuesday for head coach Rachael Moore's squad. The 75 for McGill is her best final-round score of the spring and placed the Bowling Green, Ky., native tied for 12th at 232.

Senior Tamara Munsch-Akers was the top finisher for the Lady Raiders, tying for seventh. But the Hays, Kan., native started the day just two shots off the lead before falling off the pace with a final-round 83.

Junior Kristin Lynch shot 80 to tie for 21st with a three-round score of 237, while freshman Jenny Kim fired a 78, tying for 25th at 238. Junior Kemmerlee Pennington improved her score in each round, ending with an 81 to tie for 59th (256).

"We hoped to move up and maybe get to second or third," Moore said. "But we just didn't make enough putts during the round.

"We can take a lot of positives from the tournament and build on those as we head into the conference tournament."

The Lady Raiders will prepare for the Sun Belt Championships, set for April 19-21 at the Bluewater Bay Golf and Country Club in Niceville, Fla.
