Holt Voted SBC Player of the Week

Senior earns honor for second time this season

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee senior Amber Holt was voted the Sun Belt Player of the Week on Tuesday after averaging 30.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in contests against top-ranked Tennessee and at Austin Peay last week.

Holt also posted 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals in the two contests, hitting 20-of-32 field goals, 5-for-10 3-pointers and 18-of-22 free throws.

Against the top-ranked Lady Vols, Holt netted 28 points, hitting 8-of-16 from the floor and 10-of-11 at the foul line. She added five assists in playing all 40 minutes, as the Blue Raiders trailed by just six points with six minutes to play.

Against Austin Peay, the senior scored a career-high 33 points, making 12-of-16 shots and 8-of-11 free throws. She grabbed 14 rebounds with five assists and three steals. It was her third double-double this season and the sixth of her career. She also has double-doubles this season at Houston and at Maryland.

This is Holt's second SBC Player of the Week honor this season and the fourth of her career. She garnered SBC accolades on November 20 after helping the Blue Raiders to victories over Tennessee Tech and at Houston, averaging 24.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.

She set then career-highs with 30 points and 15 rebounds in the 69-68 triumph at Houston, including scoring nine straight points in the second half after the Cougars tied the game. She also had career-highs in field goals made (13) and field goal attempts (27) and added four assists and three steals in 37 minutes in the contest. Against Tennessee Tech, Holt scored 19 points with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Holt is averaging 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game this season, all team-highs for Middle Tennessee. She ranks first in the Sun Belt in scoring, third in rebounding and tied for seventh in assists.

Her 23.8 points per game also ranks second nationally this week through games of December 16. She is also 23rd in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.18) and 64th in field goal percentage (.521).

Middle Tennessee opens Sun Belt Conference action Wednesday, facing Florida International at 7 p.m. at Murphy Center.

TEDDY BEAR TOSS SET FOR FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL GAME: The Middle Tennessee marketing department is sponsoring the "Teddy Bear Toss" for the Wednesday, December 19, contest against Florida International. Fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear to the game. Make sure and write your name on the tag and at halftime, fans will throw the bears on the court, with the closest one to halfcourt winning a prize. All teddy bears will then be picked up and donated to the "Toys for Tots" Christmas drive.

AUTOGRAPH SESSION AFTER THE GAME: Middle Tennessee's women's basketball team will hold an autograph session with all members of the team on the main floor at Murphy Center following Wednesday's game versus Florida International. Season posters will be available for the players to sign.
