April 11, 2004 · MT Media Relations
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The 58th-ranked Middle Tennessee men's tennis team won all six singles matches in straight sets to defeat UAB, 6-0, Sunday afternoon in the home finale at the Racquet Club. The match was moved indoors because of possible inclement weather.

Singles matches were played first after the match was moved indoors, with pro sets played in the final two singles matches in the dual. Middle Tennessee (8-13) now prepares for the Sun Belt Championships, set for April 23-25 in Mobile, Ala.

Senior Kirk Jackson defeated Anton Mavrin, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 1, while freshman Andreas Siljestrom won 6-4, 7-6 (2) over Andre Maier at No. 2. At No. 3 senior Trevor Short took care of Sanzaruz Zaman, 6-3, 6-2, with freshman Kai Schledorn defeating Kristijan Mitrovski, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4.

Sophomore Brandon Allan won 8-0 at No. 5 over Ivan Andreev, while junior Anant Sitaram defeated Dino Mancarella, 8-5.

The Blue Raiders finished the season 8-2 at home, including seven consecutive victories.

"It was a nice win in the last home match, especially after one of the toughest losses [to Tulane] in school history on Saturday," head coach Dale Short said. "I'm very happy for Kirk and Trevor, winning in their last home match.

"We are playing some great tennis right now, even with the losses to [22nd-ranked] Vanderbilt and [27th-ranked] Tulane this week. We are a completely different team than we were two or three weeks ago."
