Blue Raiders Fall to No. 22 Tennessee
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee fell 7-0 to No. 22 Tennessee to open the 2008 collegiate season on Friday.
The Blue Raiders (0-1) began the match with doubles but were overpowered by the Lady Vols (1-0) No. 2 tandum of Caitlin Whoriskey and Zsofia Zubor who defeated junior Marlene Chemin and senior Ann-Kristin Siljestrom 8-2.
Sophomore Stephanie Parkison and junior Andrea Herrera were the next to finish doubles play but were unable to pull out a win falling to Connor Vogel and Jennifer Meredith 8-4.
Then freshman Shannon Hartmann and senior Claudia Szabo fell to No. 26 Ghizela Schutte and Rosalia Alda 8-2.
In singles action, Parkison returned from a pre-season injury to play in the No. 1 position but fell to Whoriskey 6-1, 6-0.
Schutte defeated Hartmann 6-2, 6-2 while Siljestrom fell to Meredith in the No. 4 spot. Szabo was the next to finish as she lost her match to Samantha Orlin 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7).
Herrera lost to Alda 6-0, 6-1 before Chemin fell to No. 95 Zubor 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 5 position.
The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 20 when it faces Ole Miss at 12:30 p.m. in Oxford, Miss.
