Chemin notches first singles win; Szabo and Hartmann win first doubles match

OXFORD, Miss. - Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team fell to Ole Miss 6-1 on Sunday in its second match of the season.

Senior Claudia Szabo and freshman Shannon Hartmann were the last to finish their doubles match but won in a tie break 8-7 (3) over Soledad Podlipnik and Preethi Subramanian.

Also in doubles action, senior Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and senior Marlene Chemin fell to Nika Koukhartchouk and Karen Nijessen 8-2. Ole Miss' (1-0) Mimi Renaudin and Larua van de Stroet defeated sophomore Stephanie Parkison and junior Andrea Herrera 8-5 to win the doubles point.

In singles action, Chemin posted the only win of the match for Middle Tennessee (0-2) as she defeated Subramanian 6-2, 2-6, 10-7.

Parkison played the No. 1 position falling to Koukhartchouk 6-0, 6-2 while Nijssen defeated Hartmann 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 position.

Siljestrom lost her match 6-3, 6-0 to Podlipnik while the Rebels' van de Stroet won her match over Szabo 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Herrera's was the last match to finish as she fell 6-2, 6-0 to Renaudin.

The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 25 when it plays host to Tennessee Tech at 12 p.m.
