MT rebounds from loss Friday for win over Mocs

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Blue Raiders rebounded from their loss on Friday by taking a 6-1 win over UT-Chattanooga and giving head coach David McNamara his first win at the helm.

Middle Tennessee (1-1) won the doubles point by winning all three doubles match and did not look back. Freshmen John Peers and Alex McCann notched the first win for the Blue Raiders defeating Hasan Hamadeh and Robbie Diamond 8-3.

Then junior Morgan Richard and sophomore Marc Rocafort won their match with Razvan Axente and Badr Bouabdellah 8-4. Freshmen Richard Cowden and Chris Nowak wrapped up the doubles point with their 8-6 win over Peter Sauska and Pavel Vostrikov.

UTC (1-1) tied the match at one all after a loss by Nowak to Sauska 6-0, 6-1 to begin singles play.

The Blue Raiders rebounded as Richard won his match 6-2, 6-3 over Vostrikov. Then Rocafort posted a win as he defeated Axente 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. Peers clinched the match for Middle Tennessee as he won 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) in his match with Bouabdellah.

Rounding out play for the Blue Raiders were Cowden and McCann who each won to pad the score for MT. Cowden defeated Hamadeh 6-1, 6-2 and McCann won his match with Rick van de Bovenkam 6-3, 7-5.

The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Jan. 30 when it travels to Blacksburg, Va., to face Virginia Tech.
