Blue Raiders Lose Close Match

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Middle Tennessee fell 4-3 on Friday to the University of Texas-San Antonio in its closest match of the 2008 season.

The Blue Raiders (1-4) lost the doubles point to begin the match giving the Roadrunners (1-2) a 1-0 lead.

Then sophomore Stephanie Parkison fell to Karen Scida 6-4, 6-1 and freshman Shannon Hartmann lost her match with Nathalie Wallin 6-2, 6-4 extending the lead for UTSA 3-0.

Then the Blue Raiders started a rally. Junior Marlene Chemin won her match with Tanya Hasking 6-5, 6-5. Senior Claudia Szabo defeated Monika Drabkova 6-4, 6-1 to close the gap 3-2.

Junior Pooja Kommireddi forced a third set in her match with Holly Phillips but it was not enough as Phillips pulled ahead for a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 win in the match giving UTSA the 4-2 lead.

Senior Ann-Kristin Siljestrom rounded out play with her win over Caroline Dedering 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.

The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 3 when it faces conference foe North Texas at 12 p.m.
