MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - On the heels of one of the most successful seasons ever at Middle Tennessee head coach Matt Peck has agreed to a four-year contract extension.

With the extension Peck's contract runs through the 2012 season. The state of Tennessee does not permit contracts to exceed five years.

"We were approached by a number of prominent schools wanting to talk with Matt about their coaching openings. We are very fortunate to have Matt Peck and I am very pleased he has decided to stay here at Middle Tennessee," Massaro said. "He has helped put this program on a national stage and we expect great things out of him and his teams in the years to come. He turned down many enticing overtures because he loves this area, this university and this team."

Peck led Middle Tennessee to a 35-3 record in 2007 including the school's first appearance in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. For his efforts, Peck received Sun Belt Coach of the Year and South Region Coach of the Year honors.

Following the 2007 season, a number of schools including Ohio State, Auburn, Arizona State and Iowa approached Middle Tennessee wanting to speak with Peck about head coaching vacancies at their schools. Peck opted to stay with the Blue Raiders and build upon the successful program he has created.

"With the team we have coming back and how young we are overall, I am more than thrilled that Chris and Dr. McPhee offered me and my staff the opportunity to remain at Middle Tennessee and hopefully surpass what we have achieved here already in a short amount of time," Peck said.

In just four seasons at the helm of the Blue Raiders Peck has an overall record of 107-29 and in Sun Belt Conference play an impressive 49-11 record.

The Blue Raiders ended the 2007 season ranked 15th in the final AVCA Poll and had two Honorable Mention All-Americans in juniors Ashley Adams and Ashley Asberry. Middle Tennessee won its second consecutive Sun Belt regular season and tournament title in 2007 and received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament advancing all the way to the Sweet 16.

Peck had a number of players who led the NCAA statistics during the season including sophomore Leslie Clark in assists per game and Asberry in blocks per game and hitting percentage.
