MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee defeated UT-Chattanooga 6-1 on Tuesday in its second match of the day.

Middle Tennessee (3-6) began the match much as it had earlier in the day by sweeping the doubles matches. Sophomore Stephanie Parkison and freshman Shannon Hartmann defeated Kate Ksiezopoloski and Arianna Sanjines 8-0.

"They did an unbelievable job today. They have been working hard but just haven't been able to put it away but they did today. Claudia has been out so we have mixed up the doubles partners which today worked really well," head coach Alison Ojeda said.

Then juniors Marlene Chemin and Pooja Koomireddi won their match 8-3 over UTC's (3-2) Lindsey Ballard and Annie Green to clinch the point. Senior Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and sophomore Elvira Yusupova rounded out doubles action with their 8-5 win over Bonnie Adams and Beata Knizat.

To begin singles action, Yusupova defeated Adams 6-2, 6-0 to put the Blue Raiders up 2-0. Hartmann increased the lead to three with her win over Green, 6-1, 6-3.

"It was good to see literally No. 1 to Bo. 6 do everything they could to win today and not just string together a few good points. Everyone played to win every point which was really good to see," Ojeda said.

Junior Andrea Herrera clinched the match for Middle Tennessee with her 6-0, 6-1 win over Ksiezopoloski, 4-0. Then Chemin defeated Sanjines 7-5, 6-0 in No. 5 singles.

Parkison lost the first set 6-3 but rallied to win the next two, 6-4, 6-2 as she defeated Knizat. Siljestrom lost a close match to Ballard which went to three sets 6-2, 7-6 (3), 7-5.

Middle Tennessee will back in action on Feb. 16 when it travels to Indianapolis, Ind., to face Indiana State at 7:30 p.m.

"Saturday will be a tough match. We have lost to them the last two years and we are looking forward to playing them this year," Ojeda said.
