MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee sophomore running back Phillip Tanner has joined some elite company for his work on and off the football field. Tanner was recently selected First Team Academic All-District by ESPN the Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Tanner was one of just 26 players named to the first team and one of just three running backs.
The Dallas, Tex., native played in nine games this past season and earned one start on his way to recording 299 rushing yards and six receptions. Tanner had a breakout game on national television against No. 8 Louisville when he rushed nine times for a career-best 144 yards and three touchdowns.
