Blue Raiders Prepare for Competition

MT ready for three matches this week

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team will begin play on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Vanderbilt before facing two Sun Belt opponents on Saturday and Sunday.

The Blue Raiders (3-7) will face Vanderbilt at 2:30 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn. The Commodores are currently 6-0 on the season with wins over Michigan, Notre Dame and Colorado.

Then on Saturday, Feb. 23 Middle Tennessee will face conference foe Arkansas-Little Rock at 5:30 p.m. UALR is 8-4 on the season with wins over Memphis, Central Arkansas and Tennessee Tech. Before facing the Blue Raiders, the Trojans will play another Tennessee opponent in Tennessee-Martin on Friday, Feb. 22 at 9:30 a.m.

Middle Tennessee will round out the weekend with Arkansas State on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. The Indians are 2-3 on the season with its two wins coming against Sam Houston and Montana.

Currently, junior Elvira Yusupova leads Middle Tennessee with a record of 4-0. Yusupova has played the No. 3, 4 and 6 singles position this season.

Also guiding the Blue Raiders is junior Marlene Chemin. Chemin is 5-5 on the season with wins over Ole Miss, UT-San Antonio and UT-Chattanooga.
