Blue Raiders Win 3-2 over Lipscomb in Dramatic Fashion
McLure provides clutch hit in final inning
February 28, 2008 · David PowellThe Blue Raiders came into the doubleheader off a successful performance in the Middle Tennessee Classic on the weekend. MT went 3-1 including a impressive 6-0 victory over then-#29 Southern Illinois.
Starter Lindsey Vander Lugt (3-5) got the win for the Blue Raiders. The Sophomore scattered six hits on two runs, while striking out four in the complete game. She once again showed good command of her pitches by walking no batters for the third straight game.
Kim Jacobson (2-4) picked up the start for the Bisons, giving up two runs on five hits, while striking out one and walking one in 6.0 innings of action.
Alaina Jacobsen (1-3) worked the last two batters of the final inning in the loss for the away team.
Lipscomb opened up the scoring in the top of the 2nd inning. Heather Collins with an RBI double to deep left field, driving in Kellie Sirus and putting the Bison up 1-0.
Sirus was one-for-two with a run scored for Lipscomb.
Middle Tennessee immediately responded in their half of the inning. Whittney Padgett walked before Davis blasted a deep homerun to right-center field put the Blue Raiders ahead 2-1. Corrie Abel lined into a double play to end the inning.
Davis went one-for-two with two RBI and two runs scored for Middle Tennessee.
Lipscomb tied the game at two runs apiece in the 3rd inning. Mackenzie Tucker doubled to left field to begin the inning. Vander Lugt's errant throw past the first baseman with two outs allowed Tucker to cross the plate for the second Bison run of the ballgame.
The Blue Raiders won the game in dramatic fashion. Martha Davis began the inning inning with a walk before pinch hitter Whitney Darlington grounded out to advance Davis to second base.
With two outs, McLure punched a single into left-center field, driving in the game-winning run as MT prevailed 3-2.
