No. 47 Shockers down MT 6-1

Wichita State (2-3) began the match by winning two close doubles matches to win the point. Stephanie Delmacio and Laryssa Ferreira defeated juniors Marlene Chemin and Elvira Yusupova 9-8 (1). Then in No. 2 doubles the Shockers' No. 60 Anna Egorova and Lenore Lazaroiu won their match over seniors Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and Claudia Szabo 8-5.

Sophomore Stephanie Parkison and freshman Shannon Hartmann rounded out doubles action for the Blue Raiders (5-9) with a 9-8 (5) win over Florentina Hanisch and Torrie Browning.

"This week we put so much focus on winning the doubles point. This is a tough team and we knew we had to win the doubles point to beat them. We had two very close doubles matches one which went our way while the other one didn't. This unfortunately took some of the wind out of us but we still fought in the singles matches," head coach Alison Ojeda said.

In singles action, Parkison was the first to finish as she fell 6-0, 6-2 to Egorova. Then Herrera fell to Ferreira 6-4, 6-1 in No. 6 singles.

In No. 4 singles, Chemin lost her match 6-0, 6-2 to Hanisch while Yusupova fell to Lazaroiu 6-2, 7-5.

Szabo posted the only win for the Blue Raiders as Browning retired in the second set as Szabo was up in the match 7-5, 2-1.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 1 when it faces Tulsa.
