Blue Raiders Drop First Game 11-5

Hines leads MT at the plate in game one of a doubleheader

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee fell to New Orleans 11-5 to open conference play on Sunday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader.

Junior Nathan Hines led the Blue Raiders (7-2-1, 0-1) against the Privateers (8-2, 1-0) as he ended the day 3 for 5 three RBI and scored one run including a solo home run.

Ryan Eden led New Orleans offensively as he was 3 for 5 with two RBI and scored three runs.

Freshman Kenneth Roberts took the loss on the mound as he allowed five runs on four hits in three innings of work.

UNO began the scoring early in the first inning as Baxter scored Eden on a groundball to first base, 1-0 UNO.

The Privateers added four runs on two hits in the third including a two-run home run by Jeff Lanning, 5-0 UNO.

Butler and Baxter each singled to left field to bring in two more runs for UNO while - added another as he stole home, 8-0.

Hines put the Blue Raiders on the board in the fourth with a solo home run, 8-1.

In the top of the sixth UNO hit back-to-back doubles down the left field line to score two runs and take a nine run lead. Baxter then scored Eden from third with his single to centerfield, 11-1.

The Blue Raiders added two runs in the bottom of the seventh on three hits including a triple by Box, 11-3 UNO.

In the bottom of the ninth, Hines singled to right field which brought in Dennis from second. Then Barrett singled to right field to score Box from second, 11-5.

Middle Tennessee will play game two of the doubleheader later this afternoon.
