MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee's women's tennis team fell 6-1 to conference foe Florida International.
FIU took a 1-0 lead as it won the doubles point. Egle Petrauskaite and Liset Brito defeated juniors Marlene Chemin and Elvira Yusupova 8-1. Then Middle Tennessee evened the score as seniors Ann-Kristin Siljestrom and Claudia Szabo teamed up to defeat Priscilla Castillo and Maria Dolores 8-5.
FIU clinched the point as sophomore Stephanie Parkison and freshman Shannon Hartmann fell to Maria Vallasciani and Maria Spencely 8-4.
"We have been playing really well the last six weeks but we have to find a way to win the doubles point. Right now it is hard for us to win four doubles but if we won the doubles point we could win 4-3," head coach Alison Ojeda said.
In singles action, Petrauskaite took the first point with her 6-0, 6-2 win over Yusupova. Then Parkison fell to Marijuana Cutuk 6-3, 6-1 in No. 3 singles. The Golden Panthers clinched the match as Dolores defeated Szabo 7-6 (11-9), 6-4.
Siljestrom fell to Brito 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 while Chemin lost her match 6-3, 6-3 to Castillo. Rounding out singles action for the Blue Raiders was junior Pooja Kommireddi who posted the only win for Middle Tennessee. Kommireddi defeated Vallasciani 6-2, 4-6, 10-5.
The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Saturday, March 29 at 12 p.m. when it plays host to UT-Martin at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
