MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee and Vanderbilt will renew their football series beginning in 2015 as announced by both schools on Tuesday.

"This should cause plenty of excitement throughout the middle Tennessee region and I think it is a great series for both institutions," said Director of Athletics Chris Massaro. "This just makes sense because of the proximity of the two schools, the fans, and the rivalry is good for the mid-state area."

The four-game series will see the Commodores coming to Floyd Stadium in 2015 (Sept. 5) and 2017 (Sept. 2) while the Blue Raiders will travel to Vanderbilt in 2016 (Sept. 10) and 2018 (Sept. 1). Vanderbilt's lone visit to Murfreesboro came during the 1920 season.

The Blue Raiders and Commodores have not played each other since 2005 when Middle Tennessee won in dramatic fashion with a blocked field goal on the final play of the game.

The two teams have faced off three times since the Blue Raiders joined the I-A (football bowl subdivision) ranks in 1999 with MT winning all three contests at Vanderbilt Stadium.

"Our schedule now sets up to where we will play Vanderbilt or Memphis every year from 2009 through 2018," added Massaro.
